A Step-by-Step Guide
We wish you hearty congratulations if you’ve qualified the Phase II exam. You are now just a step away from your dream job!
Importance of the Interview Stage
Interview is the last and the most crucial stage of the exam. It can make or break the result as interview marks can vary widely.
After Phase 2 result is declared, the successful candidates need to fill in a bio-data form which consists of all basic details like name, date of birth, graduation details, etc. It also entails sections like achievements and hobbies. And this form is handed over to each panel member before every candidate’s interview. Thus, it can be concluded that this form is the Bible for the interview preparation.
So how do you go about preparing?
1. Filling the Bio-data form – Be extremely mindful while filling out the bio-data form as this is going to be your syllabus for the interview. Don’t understate or overstate yourself. Fill out things which you can genuinely express. Bragging on the form will not help if you are unable to portray the same during the interview process. So be who you really are, as it is extremely easy for the experienced panel to catch the difference.
2. Prepare Topics – After the form is finalized, list out all the keywords and create probable questions against all of them. If this exercise is followed exhaustively, you will be able to predict a lot of questions.
3. For Candidates with Job Experience – It is possible that a good part of the interview hovers around your current/previous job. Be ready to justify why you are leaving or why you are ready for a pay cut, etc.
4. Current Affairs – Current Affairs is universally important for all candidates - whether working or not. It will be expected from a serious candidate that they are well aware of the ongoings in the financial sector of the country and the world. You need not be an expert, but ‘AWARENESS’ is what is expected.
5. Practise! – This list of topics that you created is not just to predict but to practise. Practise answering these questions with friends, in front of the mirror. This will ensure that you learn to answer with brevity.
6. Mocks – Mock interviews are the best way to prepare. You will get a fresh perspective, new set of questions, and will learn to answer questions with incomplete knowledge or questions you might not be comfortable answering.
Interview is not only the most important but also the most fun stage of the entire process. The panel is not there to test your knowledge but to understand whether you are the right candidate. The panel will test qualities like humility, respect, honesty, leadership as you have already displayed the prowess of your knowledge in Phase II. After all you will be serving the world’s third largest economy post selection!
